SICILY. Katane. Circa 450-430 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 16.57 g, 3 h). Charioteer driving quadriga walking to right, holding kentron in his left hand and reins in his right; above, Nike flying right, crowning the horses with a wreath. Rev. KATAN[AION] Laureate head of Apollo to right. Mirone 43 (same obverse die). Rizzo pl. XI, 6 (same obverse die). SNG ANS 1250 (same dies). Beautifully toned and of excellent style. With the usual small die break on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.
